La Closerie des Lilas
Well known in the '30s for its famous clientele, most notably Ernest Hemingway. Offers high-flying brasserie cuisine, like foie gras with fig marmalade, boléro lobster salad and roast turbot. The terrace is one of the most elegant spots in Paris to dine on a sunny summer afternoon.

Lila's was also used in the movie What's New Pussycat with Peter O'Toole and Woody Allen in fall of 1964. It's the outdoor cafe scene occuring approximately 15 minutes into the movie where O'Toole's Character is introduced to a young beauty named Tempest O'Brien by Woody Allan's character-Victor. This scene is where the girl says to Michael James(O'Toole): "It's something, when the sun hits your face at a certain angle, you're almost handsome." Anyway, good restaurant for the value and a great classic movie from the 60s.

Small bar/brasserie, smoky ambiance but very animated until 2 a.m., nonchalant service and unoriginal cuisine, not so good oysters, poorly cooked tuna with cabbage, plain wines.
Backed up valet...
For an "institution," it should be much better...
